The Kaiju King
Matt Frank is known in both Japan and America as the “Kaiju King,” having been an artist for IDW’s Godzilla comics since 2011. His work can be found in Godzilla: Kingdom of Monsters, Godzilla: History’s Greatest Monster, Godzilla: Legends, Godzilla: Rulers of Earth, and Godzilla: Rage Across Time. Matt is also an accomplished Transformers artist, working extensively for both IDW and Fun Publications, as an interior artist and a character designer. Mars Attacks The Transformers and Spotlight: Trailcutter are among his most popular works from the popular Hasbro franchise. In the summer of 2017, Matt made an exclusive poster celebrating the American home video release of Shin Godzilla by Funimation, and is a featured commentator on the Blu Ray special features. In 2018, he has begun collaborating with Tsuburaya Productions on creating a new comic based on the cult classic hero Redman: The Kaiju Hunter. He also started working with Boom! Studios on Adventure Time comics, Rugrats, and Power Rangers. In recent years, Matt has been creating new art for the Japanese releases of IDW’s Godzilla comics, including collaboration covers with famous Japanese artists. In 2019, he also worked on the new Power Rangers: Heroes of the Grid tabletop game and has been creating new “Ultra Sketch” books celebrating the history of the Ultra Series from Tsuburaya! 2020 marks a major turning point for Matt, as he began the year as the first foreign artist to have a signing at the official Godzilla Store in Tokyo, Japan. One of his biggest accomplishments has been as the main artist for Gamera: The Complete Collection, a multi-disc Blu Ray set released by Arrow Video, released in August 2020.
